STUDENTS AWARDED FOR THEIR CREATIVE AND “GREEN” ART

Columbia, SC – PalmettoPride has announced the 2011-2012 Litter Trashes Everyone Art Contest winners. Three students have received top honors for themselves and their schools for creating litter-free art.

Elementary school students were challenged to draw a picture with the theme “Litter Trashes Everyone”. Jesse Matt from Bethel Elementary School in Simpsonville is this year’s winner. Her winning design will be featured on PalmettoPride’s t-shirts for the next year.

PalmettoPride will present their new t-shirt design featuring Jesse Matt’s artwork at Bethel Elementary School on Thursday, May 17, 2012, at 8:00 a.m. Every student in the school will receive a new t-shirt.

Middle school students were challenged to create a sculpture using recycled materials. Tyler Roop from Ocean Bay Middle School in Myrtle Beach created a wonderful dragonfly out of disposable razors, plastic bottles, corrugated cardboard and other items of trash.

High school students were challenged to create a PSA that will be shown on PalmettoPride’s YouTube page. Eleni Ladd from Oceanside Academy in Goosecreek was this year’s winner. Eleni’s PSA rivals professional-grade work in its informative and straightforward message.

The PalmettoPride Litter Trashes Everyone Art Contest was created to engage students on an individual basis. Education is key to changing behaviors that create litter. Please visit www.palmettopride.org for more information.
