PALMETTOPRIDE AWARDS BEREA HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WITH PLAYWRITING AWARD
For Immediate Release Media Contact: April 14, 2010 Sarah Robinson, 803-758-6034 PALMETTOPRIDE AWARDS BEREA HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WITH PLAYWRITING AWARD Ten Other Berea Students Recognized for Entries Columbia, SC -- PalmettoPride, the state anti-litter and beautification organization, presented Berea High School students Reianna Stancel and Kim Tron with 2nd place awards for their plays. Stancel's play “Follow the Leader” and Tron's play “Green World” tied for the top award for Greenville County. Stancel and Tron each received certificates of appreciation and $100 gift cards. Along with other winners, their plays will be on loan to theater groups around the state for the next school year. The award presentation took place during a special presentation at Berea High School at 10:30 a,.m. Principal William F. Roach and teacher Trudie Nash joined Linda Shadel and Debbie Cohea from PalmettoPride to present the awards. Ten other Berea High school students were also acknowledged for their entries in the competition. PalmettoPride launched its newest education program, the “Litter Trashes Everyone Playwriting Competition” in 2009. This playwriting competition is open to middle and high school students around the state. Each play must be original and no more than 20-minutes in length. There is one top winner for the state and one winner per county. Winning plays will be available on loan to school drama departments and theater troupes around the state.
