For Immediate Release Media Contact: December 2, 2009 Sarah Robinson, 803-758-6034 PALMETTOPRIDE AWARDS 2010 EDUCATION GRANTS Columbia, SC – PalmettoPride, the state's anti-litter organization announced today its 2009 – 2010 Challenge for the Environment Education Grant winners. Thirty-eight (38) schools will receive grant funds to initiate anti-litter and beautification programs in schools. The Challenge for the Environment Grant provides funds to coordinate one of three programs with students. Those applying can choose from the Green Reader program, Recycling Troopers, or creating a Carolina Fence Garden. “PalmettoPride places a great emphasis on education as a means for stopping litter. If we can impress upon our children the importance of living litter-free we can hopefully prevent future generations from littering,” said Linda Shadel, Director of Operations for PalmettoPride. Education is one of four program areas PalmettoPride uses to fulfill its mission: to eradicate litter and promote beautification. Along with the grant, PalmettoPride has several large-scale programs to round out their education component: the “Litter Trashes Everyone” Marionette Show, Miss SC presentations, litter curriculum, website games, and the newly created Litter Free Games and Litter Trashes Everyone Playwriting Competition. For more information on any of these programs, please log onto www.palmettopride.org. A full list of winners follows this release. PalmettoPride is a statewide 501C3 non-profit organization. Its mission is to eradicate litter and promote beautification in South Carolina. # # # 2009 -2010 Challenge for the Environment Grant Recipients | COUNTY | SCHOOL | | Anderson | Pendleton High School | | Beaufort | Hilton Head Preparatory School | | Beaufort | May River Montessori | | Beaufort | St. Peter Catholic School | | Calhoun | St. Matthews K-8 | | Charleston | Orange Grove Elementary Charter School | | Charleston | St. Johns High School | | Darlington | Spaulding Middle School | | Greenville | Bryson Elementary | | Hampton | Varnville Elementary School | | Lancaster | Eastside Academy | | Lancaster | Indian Land Middle School | | Laurens | AMIkids Piedmont | | Laurens | Laurens Middle School | | Lexington | Gilbert High School | | Lexington | Sandhills Elementary School | | Oconee | Northside Elementary School | | Orangeburg | Branchville High School | | Pickens | Ambler Elementary School | | Pickens | A.R.
