PALMETTOPRIDE BRINGS LITTER-FREE GAMES TO A HIGH SCHOOL NEAR YOU

New Program Aims to Keep Football Stadiums Clean During Events

Columbia, SC – PalmettoPride, the state's anti-litter organization, announces a new program geared towards empowering high school students to create a litter-free environment during high school football games.  Litter-Free Games will bring awareness to litter issues for students and visitors alike and will provide a system to prevent litter from happening in the first place.

“We are extremely excited about launching this new program and having the opportunity to work with high school students around the state,” said Linda Shadel, Director of Operations for PalmettoPride.

Student clubs are tasked with choosing one home football game to promote as being a litter-free game.  Litter bags will be distributed to fans entering the stadium to collect their trash accumulated during the game.  All attendees will be asked to throw these bags away in trash cans when they exit, leaving the stadium and grounds litter-free.

“One of the strategies to accomplish our goal is to encourage personal responsibility.  Having these students take charge is a great way to teach them valuable lessons and to empower them to teach others,” Shadel said.

PalmettoPride provides signs to be placed around the school prior to the chosen litter-free game and to place around the stadium during the game.  PalmettoPride will also provide litter bags for game attendees to place their trash and to throw away after the event.
