VOLUNTEERS WANTED
LAKE GREENWOOD CLEANUP BLITZ PLANNED FOR MAY 16, 2009 Columbia, SC – Volunteers are needed to help clean up Lake Greenwood in the first Lake Greenwood Cleanup Blitz. Drought conditions in recent years lowered water levels in lakes all over the state – Lake Greenwood being one of those. The lower water levels uncovered a nasty secret the water cleverly disguised: LITTER. Whether left behind from recreational users, blown off of boats on a fast run or deliberately placed by careless litterbugs, litter is all over the shoreline. The water level has risen again, but the litter problem persists. Volunteers are needed to help clean up this beautiful lake. Outdoor enthusiasts, families, school groups, civic clubs and concerned citizens are encouraged to participate in the cleanup on Saturday, May 16, 2009. Event organizers are also looking for volunteers with boats to assist in the cleanup efforts. The event begins at 8:00 a.m. and concludes with a volunteer lunch at 11:30 a.m. Volunteers will receive a t-shirt, lunch and a chance to win prizes. To volunteer, please contact 1-877-725-7733 or 941-3370. Organizations leading this effort are as follows: Keep Greenwood County Beautiful, Greenwood County Lake Management, Greenwood County Public Works, Laurens County government, SC Department of Natural Resources and PalmettoPride. PalmettoPride is the state anti-litter and beautification organization. For more information on this cleanup and other programs, please visit www.palmettopride.org. # # #
