Columbia, SC – PalmettoPride and South Carolina Athletics have teamed up again for the 2nd annual Keep the Colonial Life Arena Clean campaign. This campaign encourages fans to throw away their trash and leave the Colonial Life Arena litter-free. During all SEC men's home games, volunteers in the stands help PalmettoPride promote the anti-litter message and lead by example on proper ways of discarding trash.
In the second half of each game, volunteers from area schools and service clubs walk around the stands with trash bags and encourage fans to throw away their trash. This provides visitors a more convenient way to dispose of trash rather than leave it on the floor by their seats. A public service announcement on the arena's video board promotes the groups' anti-litter message: Litter Trashes Everyone, Don't Do It. All volunteers receive a ticket to the game and a t-shirt.
“We were thrilled with the success of last year's campaign,” said Sarah Robinson, Public Relations Manager for PalmettoPride. “Seeing volunteers and fans actively participate tells us that people do care about their environments, inside and outside. We hope they will take the message home with them when they leave.”
This campaign falls under PalmettoPride's Collegiate Recycling and Anti-Litter program. Several schools participate with recycling at football games, but this is the only basketball anti-litter campaign in the state. PalmettoPride welcomes other schools to participate with their own coliseum programs. Please contact Sarah Robinson at 803-758-6034.
