KEEP AMERICA BEAUTIFUL AWARDS TOP HONORS TO SC AFFILIATES

Columbia, SC -- Keep America Beautiful, Inc. (KAB), the nation's most-recognized community improvement organization, awarded top honors to three South Carolina affiliates and presented the President's Circle Awards to 20 local affiliates on December 4th and 5th during their annual national conference held at the Omni Shoreham in Washington, DC.

 

Carolyn Tomlinson, Recycling Coordinator and Director of Keep Dorchester County Beautiful, was awarded with the Professional Leadership Award.  This award recognizes an affiliate director who has “built and sustained a local or state program with outstanding success” and is the top award honoring an affiliate director.  Tomlinson has received numerous national awards from KAB and has been recognized for her Recycling Troopers program from the American Forest & Paper Association.

 

Three affiliates received National Awards.  Keep Dorchester County Beautiful received a 1st place National Award for Waste Reduction.  Keep Georgetown Beautiful received a 1st place Affiliate Award.  KAB of Anderson County received a 2nd place Affiliate Award.  Keep Dorchester County Beautiful also received a Great American Cleanup Outstanding Sponsorship Award.

 

Keep SC Beautiful received Gold Level State Affiliate Recognition Award.

 

KAB presented 20 affiliates with President Circle Recognition Award certificates.  The President's Circle recognizes affiliates who fulfill all requirements of the national organization and perform programs in their three focus areas: litter prevention, waste reduction and beautification.  (List of winners follows.)

 

The 55th KAB Annual National Conference was held December 3-5, 2008, at the Omni Shoreham in Washington, DC. 

 

There are 23 local KAB affiliates in South Carolina.  Keep SC Beautiful is the state affiliate and a program under PalmettoPride, the state anti-litter and beautification.
