COASTAL CAROLINA UNIVERSTIY ANNOUNCE RECYCLING AT BROOKS STADIUM
TAILGATERS WILL NOW BE ABLE TO RECYCLE THEIR BEVERAGE CONTAINERS DURING HOME FOOTBALL GAMES Columbia, SC – PalmettoPride, the state anti-litter and beautification organization, is expanding its collegiate recycling program to a new school. Coastal Carolina University is the fourth school to receive PalmettoPride's two-year start up grant to establish a recycling system for home football games. Starting on September 6, 2008, there will be recycling bins in and around Brooks stadium for all visitors to use. “We are excited to introduce this program to our campus,” said Marissa Mitzner, Sustainability Coordinator. “Coastal Carolina University is dedicated to creating a sustainable campus, and this recycling program is a great step in reducing the amount of trash that enters our waste stream.” The Coastal Carolina University Campus and Community Sustainability Initiative is partnering with Horry County Solid Waste Authority to kick off their home football season with a new recycling program. PalmettoPride provides recycling bins, signage and t-shirts. The bins will be placed around the stadium and will be marked to receive plastic, glass, and aluminum. The University is responsible for coordinating the logistics of recycling, including collection and removal of recyclable materials. PalmettoPride coordinates a Collegiate Recycling Grant to assist colleges and universities start up recycling programs at their stadiums. Coastal Carolina University joins University of South Carolina, Clemson University and SC State University in this program. PalmettoPride hopes to include all colleges and universities in waste-reducing activities.
