SUMTER NATIONAL FOREST CLEANUP PLANNED FOR MAY 31

Volunteers Needed

Outdoor enthusiasts, recreational users and concerned citizens are encouraged to participate.  Great for a family function or a club project!

WHO:             USDA Forest Service and PalmettoPride

WHAT:           Volunteers are needed to cleanup multiple sites in the Sumter National Forest.    Sites cover several counties and include: Lick Fork Lake, Fork Trail Head, Modoc, Edgefield Work Center 283 and Strom Thurmond Lake Landings.   The cleanup should last approximately 3-hours and will be followed by a lunch for all volunteers, sponsored by PalmettoPride.

OTHER:          As part of their Forest, Parks and Waterways program, PalmettoPride is returning to the Sumter National Forest after focusing on other state and national forests.  In 2004, 64 volunteers removed 20 tons of trash from 18 acres of forest. 

PalmettoPride is a statewide non-profit dedicated to reducing litter in South Carolina and promoting beautification in our communities.  Their focus is a 4-pronged approach: education, enforcement, awareness and pickup.
